We were commissioned to style of the present times and draw together the different architectural styles and activities around it
The design had to be approved by the City Architect and significant local lobbying groups such as the congregation of the Marble Church. It was necessary to demonstrate through analytical drawings and through models how our building completed the original square in a way that was proportionally and conceptually consistent with the Meldahl design.
The façade materials used will follow those of the Tietgens Square villas - Façade in hydraulic Lime render (in our building applied onto a Foamglas insulation that compliments the physical properties of the natural lime finish and the precast concrete substrate), with Oberkirchen stone detailing. Windows are in painted timber and painted steel. The penthouse is clad in Belgian Bluestone. Balconies are designed to be demountable to allow access for construction of the new Metro that will be built in the square. They will be made of a lightweight glass reinforced concrete that will have a reeded texture and a pale stone-like colouring similar to Oberkirchen.
