This Grade II listed house in Chelsea had been re-developed several times in recent decades, but had got rather tired. Our clients were looking to relocate to London and appointed us to create a new sense of space and light. We provided a full architectural service which included; obtaining planning and listed building consents and administrating the construction contract.
Other than a considerable reconfiguration to the internal plan, the final design also features a distinctive roof terrace which is accessed via a new brick and glass extension. The rear garden was also re-designed to create a revitalizing entertaining space, where the sound of running water can be heard from the custom-made stainless steel cascading water feature.
A reinterpreted palette of natural stone, timber and brickwork was developed to create a calming and naturally illuminated house, whilst also referencing the traditional materiality of the building. Bespoke joinery and sanitary-ware was designed to encapsulate this design ethos, and ensure that a crisp and concisely detailed finish was achieved.
