OZU X is an underground building which has studios, common areas, cafe, meeting rooms surrounded by laboratories designed for architecture and engineering students. The aim of the project is to unite students, and offer them different types of spaces to study. Being an underground structure makes the building a little bit isolated from other faculty buildings, and it becomes a place where students want to spend their time when they want to study. Eventhough the study and research seem the main focus of the function, both interior and exterior common spaces are created for users to relax and socialize with other people. Through the building concrete shows up as a main material. Pipes and technical equipments are totally visible right under the ceiling. Being underground concrete building might sound a little depressive. However glass tubes are placed on spesific points to allow natural light to enter the building. Spaces are mostly divided by glass which makes the natural light penetrate into all parts of the building. Moreover, an exterior common area exists in the backyard which again lets the natural light enter the building. There are also presentation areas that can be separated from the common interior area by acoustic curtains. By using acoustic curtains as a separator, a sound isolated areas are created and these areas are flexible which can be transferred into common area to presentation rooms when needed. OZU X provides students a well designed building to study and collaborate. If you are tired of concentrating on your studies you can grab a coffee from the cafe inside, and relax in the interior or exterior common areas with your friends.
