The Cadet Chapel

The Cadet Chapel is the architectural gem of the United States Air Force Academy north of Colorado Springs. Designed by Walter Netsch in 1962, it was originally considered controversial in its design, but has since become a classic and highly regarded example of modernist architecture.

The structure is a tubular steel frame of 100 identical tetrahedrons, each 23 meters long, weighing five tons, and enclosed with aluminum panels. The tetrahedrons are spaced a foot apart, creating gaps in the framework that are filled with a mosaic of colored glass, letting a beautiful light in that illuminates the interior and changes throughout the day.
