"寂静的形式"——汤桦，建筑师的十二个作品

Form of Silence – 

Tanghua Architects, 12 Built & Unbuilt  Projects

受英国谢菲尔德大学建筑学院的邀请，汤桦老师于谢菲尔德大学艺术塔举办为期一个月的个人展览“寂静的形式”。汤桦老师的开幕讲座作为谢大纪念已故教授Peter Blundell Jones的学术演讲系列第六期也是最后一期讲座，通过五个场景和五个他主持完成的项目来阐释设计理想。而展览围绕他的十二件建筑设计作品展开，精选作品以建筑学的语言介入城市空间，探寻地域性的现代转化在公共建筑这一类型学上的可能性。

Invited by the School of Architecture at the University of Sheffield, England, Professor Tang Hua held a one-month exhibition at the Art Tower of the University of Sheffield, with the theme Form of Silence. As the sixth and the last lecture of the Peter Blundell Jones Memorial Lecture Series, professor Tang Hua reified his design concept through five scenes and five projects he directed. While the exhibition revolves around his twelve architectural projects with the selected works intervening the urban space in the language of architecture and exploring the possibility of modernity transformation of the local in public architecture.

寻找和建立形式组成了建筑学作为一门专业的核心，在这一层意义上，形式不应当简单地被理解为图像或是构成的呈现，而应成为建筑和场所之间的原型链接。

Finding a form and communicating a form constitutes the core part of architecture as both a discipline and a profession. Form in this case is not an imposition of a composition or an image; here, form is understood as an archetypal link between an architecture and a location.

路易斯·康（Louis I Kahn）基于他“空间营造作为建筑本质”的智识立场，用始终如一的手法在现代性和纪念性之间取得平衡，形成了一种形式。

Louis I Kahn found a form, by striking a balance between the modernisation and monumentation through a consistent approach to form, based on his intellectual position on the making of the room as the essence of architecture.

西古尔德·劳沃伦茨（Sigurd Lewerentz）通过对单一材料和单一建筑的整体性的追求，将白话和经典，世俗和神圣调和为一体，形成了一种形式。

Sigurd Lewerentz found a form, by mediating a combination of the vernacular and the classic, the profane and the sacred into one, through the worship to a single material and the wholeness of a single building.

在汤桦建筑设计的实践中，形式回归其根本，寻找一种寂静，寻求中央与周边，现代化与地方，城市化和城市理念之间的和解。

In the practice of Tanghua Architects, form returns to its fundamentals in search for a silence, seeking for a point of reconciliation between the central and the peripheral, the modernisation and the locality, the urbanisation and the idea of city.

这些在中国南部和西南部地区的建筑实践对逝去的前现代传统具有敏感的同情，持续地对抗和参与在极度快速的城市化进程中，并坚持不懈地向特定的地点和民众群体传达一种特定的本地记忆和文化传统。

The practice intellectually confronts and engages with the extreme rapid urbanisation in the southern and southwestern Chinese regions, with a sensitive sympathy to the lost pre-modern traditions, and with a strong persistence on architectural expression of local memory and cultural tradition for specific locations and user groups.

这种手法的核心是延续或恢复消失的地区乡土景观，特定场所的生活品质以及建筑物内外环绕的公共生活之间脆弱的关系。

Central to the practice is the continuation or restoration of the fragile relationship between the vanishing regional vernacular landscape, the as-found quality of a specific site, and proposed public life in and around a building.

与突破传统和脱离背景的持续快速城市化相反，汤桦建筑设计事务所作品呈现的寂静的建筑形式是与特定场所、城市和地方强有力的再次介入。

Counter to the bustles and hustles of the ongoing rapid urbanisation in breaking with the tradition and detaching from the context, Tanghua Architects’ architectural form of silence is a powerful re-engagement with the specific site, city and locality.
