EATH Library is the brainchild of Seoul-based designer Teo Yang, who is known for transforming traditional Korean culture into a modern aesthetic. With a global background and experience working with top local and international design firms, Yang guides the future of contemporary design while respecting Korea's traditional heritage.
Yang's idea was to launch a contemporary skincare brand based on traditional Korean medicine. His goal was to get people to experience the brand in a more thoughtful and cultural way, walking through historic landmarks before they even set foot in the showroom. Upon entering the store, customers will see what looks like an old Korean hanok, an old tree, everything comes together here to create an unforgettable authentic experience.
EATH Library's physical store is located in a historic district where every detail references Korean heritage. Yang's primary focus in creating the brand was the actual production and craftsmanship of the skin care products, so he wanted the interior design to reflect that.
Traditional pine furniture is made by local craftsmen and is produced in the original red bean color rarely seen today. Two moon-shaped Windows pay homage to the traditional moon jar, elegantly echoing the Korean minimalist aesthetic, while other traditional aspects take the form of a hanji paper screen partition in the showroom area, which creates another light, ethereal experience, as well as piles of old Korean books, among others.
Traditional Korean medicine is another subject that can be translated into modern languages. This project is a particularly important one for Teo Yang, as he believes that designers should never limit themselves to doing only interiors, architecture, products or furniture. He wants to introduce our traditional medicine on a global scale, and even more, because it is slowly becoming obsolete.
