从自爱到无私，有几个项目都采用了外观设计的方法.阿奎特图拉·埃潘迪达，一个激进的建筑团体，创建了“波托电影院”，这是一个展示年轻人在波哥大最贫困地区建造的学校里的一系列视频的装置。“海洋野生动物保护组织海洋牧羊人”(SeaShepherd)通过一部视频作品倡导设计团队的抽象设计；服装设计师马可拒绝使用有害的“快速时尚”标签，展示符合中国土地和农村传统的合乎道德的服装。

在阿奎特图拉·埃潘迪达的“波托电影院”装置中，参观者可以观看年轻人在社区中为回应“恐惧”和“爱”而制作的视频(如图所示，至今仍在拍摄)。

作为对英国退欧的回应，oma设计了一个客厅，里面装满了来自28个欧盟成员国的物品，说明了欧盟贸易是如何形成国内生活的，这突显出，尽管我们都渴望与欧盟建立联系，但很明显，我们实际上比以往任何时候都更加脱节。

这些装置显示了内向和外向的观点(自私与无私)的两极分化，“社交”(社交网络与社会活动家)这个词的大量混淆意义，以及对阅读和交流情绪的痴迷。展览提出了设计如何破坏我们的生活的问题，从在中国日益增加的污染到永存的自恋。新的设计博物馆利用了这两种当代情感，以及它们之间令人不安的并列关系。
