For the fifth year in a row, Allies and Morrison has unveiled a Christmas window design along the elevation of their award winning building in 85 Southwark Street, designed by architects Maria Spada and Constantino Baranda.
This year's design illuminates the facade of the building in seasonal red by covering the normally yellow fins in red fabric and the installation of twenty-one red fluorescent tubes which are spread evenly across the elevation.
The design was chosen for its conceptual simplicity and visual impact on both Southwark Street and the interiors of the practice. With the shutters being opened and closed manually by individuals in the practice throughout the day, the facade of 85 Southwark Street changes in its constellation multiple times throughout the day. By night, reminiscent of urban neon streetscapes and with echoes of the work of contemporary artists like Dan Flavin, the illuminated bands of light convey a warm winter glow.
