the proposal consists of a series of mixed interventions for the diverse suburb of elsternwick in melbourne, australia. engaging with the surrounding urban narrative, the ‘collective center’ project explores a range of mixed architectural solutions within one ring road. in response to the diverse nature of the site, the neighborhood is activated by new activities and buildings such as a synagogue, day care, pub and low cost housing development. the area has a complex set of typologies with the consistency of glenhuntly road broken by various programs, such as a mcdonalds, art house cinema, rifle club, holocaust museum, abc headquarters, anglican church and even a brothel. the uninterrupted surfaces along the main strip become a backdrop, with the inserted forms celebrating the everyday spectacle of daily life.
