GPD Group designed the New PK-8 School for the Lakeview Local School District with thoughtful organization and updated elements throughout for students in Cortland, Ohio.
The new 132,383 sf two-story Lakeview PK-8 school serves 1,122 students in a Future Ready Learning environment and replaces two outdated elementary and middle schools of the Lakeview Local School District in Cortland, Ohio. Understanding through an intensive educational visioning experience, that flexibility and transparency were key, the interior of the building is arranged in “Learning Communities” comprised of two grade levels, with a central “Learning Commons.” Most of the typical classroom casework units are mobile, along with the furniture and mobile technology, to provide for flexibility in teaching and learning styles. Operable partitions between classrooms and vertical sliding glass partitions (garage doors) add to flexibility and transparency thus enabling an environment that is easily adjustable to accommodate different learning and teaching styles.
