Perkins&Will designed Western Washington University’s Interdisciplinary Science Building in Bellingham, Washington.
Western Washington University’s Interdisciplinary Science Building (WWU ISB) is part of a state-wide initiative to enhance STEM learning.
A timelessly modern learning environment, WWU ISB is comprised of 10 teaching laboratories and three active learning classrooms to foster cross-discipline collaboration across a variety of soft spaces, including student support labs, breakout areas and study nooks, and expansive glass that allows for direct visibility into teaching laboratories.
In anticipation of various research and departmental requirements, Perkins&Will designed these teaching laboratories with a common module to allow for adaptability and future generations of STEM students.
During the design phase, student health and sustainability also remained top of mind for the project team.
