Sports Hall, planned to be built within the scope of the 17th Mediterranean Games of 2013 to be held in Mersin, will be one of the most significant centres of the games. The basic concept of design aims to plan the hall in harmony with the urban landscape and integrate it into the daily lives of citizens. The design of the Hall derives much of its original character from the dynamics of the city. In this respect, the building is noted for its monumentality. The power of the image of design relies upon a repeating pattern of vertically and horizontally aligned architecture elements and their tectonic relations. The Hall maintains its modern architectural identity through this imaginative power and perception of such spatial relationships. The eaves surrounding the building welcome the visitors and extend over the entrance where they overlap with this urban public space, which is interwoven into the fabric of the daily life and freely organizing the people around. Such an inviting entrance not only carries the visitors totally on a different scale, but also spatially arranges the use of outdoor space while providing effective protection from overly intensive sunlight in Mersin.
