The potential of a city’s “residual land”
Occupying an extremely long and narrow site usually considered as a residual land, the project strives to use the potential of this area. As architects, our role was to add value. The design was based on two major approaches, “topography” and “surrounding environment”, to make it a charming residence.
It was designed with 5 small units, lined up along the apposed Shin Ome road, and the planted back scene with a beautiful greenery. Although there is a physical limitation of the site by a dynamic spatial structure, it was designed to create intimacy connections with the outside.
By lowering the living floor below the main road, the ceiling opens widely and includes a loft between the upper and lower floor. This three-dimensional organization also makes the room have privileges in borrowing the natural scenery, and preserves the residents from the discomfort of the high traffic road.
BE-FUN DESIGN’s belief is that every residual land that has a possibility to become a land that is meant to someone. Our role as an architect is to consider each land’s intricacies and enhance their potential.
