The project is located in the Kowloon Mankok area, and when we first visited the site we felt that the surrounding area was chaotic and exciting; the buildings all have very strong linear expressions with lots of different elements, and bold colours and textures were used on the facades. The site has the advantage of being a corner site so it has a “wider” frontage despite the narrow plot and is clearly visible from across the street and down the road.

JMA felt for the building to truly standout in terms of design it needs to adopt a bold form while keeping the colour and texture simple. We then took inspiration from the free forms of corals; the curve will stand out against the vertical backdrop and echo the continuous flow of people and traffic around the site. It was also important to us that the building design should have a sense of movement and not appear static while surrounded by the lively and vibrant area. The glass curtainwall will also mean that the facade will reflect during the day and glow night; much like a shining jewel at the end of the Golden Mile.
