Recreational space for a Social Security Institution
The project starts from the necessity of consolidation of an area that hosts leisure activities of the employees, labor gymnastics and commemorative events. Located in the central area of Curitiba, capital of the State of Paraná, Brazil, the intervention happened at the courtyard of the lot. Its front portion is occupied by an eight-story tower, where 170 people work. There is also a secondary service building placed in the posterior border of the lot.
The preexisting leisure area was very compact. There was a conflict between activities that took place in this area and in the parking lot. The project focused in expanding the preexisting recreational space, incorporating the area of 2 of the 7 existing car spaces, besides advancing with the leisure program inside the secondary edification, in its portion that contained an improvised warehouse.
The separation between car and people space was intensified by a floor level difference and by the use of a deck and a ceiling, both made of solid wood. The internal space of the remodeled room was designed as a neutral recipient for a diversity of activities and furniture dispositions. The force line materialized by the pure form and by the arrangement of the wooden slats reinforces the direct bond of the room with the external deck.
Despite the location of the project, in a high traffic urban area, the elimination of portion of the parking lot was well received by the institution employees, enabling the existence of a recreational space with better quality and with a contrasting atmosphere in comparison with the offices of the main building.
