At Plum Alive, an upscale residential community serving Bangkok University students, staff and teachers, the outdoor environment serves as a multifaceted destination, promoting wellness, social engagement, revitalization, and relaxation in a setting conceived as human biotope. A compound of low-rise residential condominiums is artfully united by a long, linear interior courtyard serving as an immense communal park — and which responds to residents’ needs, forming a characteristic residential biotope.

Designed and constructed with high-quality materials and a distinctive aesthetic character, the park-like environment seamlessly combines active and passive facilities to accommodate a range of user needs. It is a setting that harmoniously accommodates a holistic lifestyle for students and teachers, including comfortable and engaging places for work, study, exercise, relaxation and socialization. The more passive areas include garden terraces; gathering and study areas under shade trees; a feature pond with leisure net seating; a massage pool; and a shaded social pool. For both exercise and social engagement, amenities include a dedicated jogging route with integrated work-out stations; a functional lap pool; and a social area with large party pool next to the party terrace and party room.

The project’s vision and success stem from the initial master planning efforts, which strategically created additional room for park-like space and linked the facility pavilions’ interior functions to the corresponding landscape functions. The master planning effort helped convert an immense two-story facility building into a series of one-story pavilions. The zigzag jogging route connects the decentralized functions, providing an immersive journey with distinctive views.

The project showcases how to maximize limited space and overcome existing challenges to create an inspired communal destination. The Plum Alive interior central park is a true human biotope inspired by the university community residents’ lifestyle needs, providing a vibrant setting for studying, recharging, group meetings, exercise and social interaction.
