Two multi - apartment buildings
with apartments for the elderly and Center for daily activities. With an articulated central space established between the buildings and the volumetric decomposition used on the periphery to establish various ambient elements with intention to provide an integrated living environment for the elderly.
The architectural urban design, with its two multi-apartment buildings and public area, is based on the establishment of a programme which integrates housing and public works into a functional whole. Its diverse interior and exterior environments and programme contents create an integrated living environment for the elderly. The concept also establishes a contextual relation with regard to the criteria and characteristics of the city of Izola. The public programme forms an architecturally significant image at the lower level of the site, integrated into a partially excavated base of the upper level, and it also represents the entrance motif when accessing the housing estate. By using different dimensions for window openings and the visual framing of façades, the façades of buildings appear more visually decomposed and they become more 'individualistic'. Such motifs represent the mental link for inhabitants with their previous living environment.
