Project type: New architecture Client: Georg Fischer Machining Solutions Site: Losone, CH Year: 2017 - 2022 Area: 4'000 mq In the heart of the Locarno region, surrounded by the Melezza river and forests, Georg Fischer's production facility is set to expand to accommodate a new administrative area for about 270 employees. The expansion becomes an opportunity to renew not only the historical GF headquarters, giving it a new representative appearance in line with its importance in the region, but also the outdoor spaces connected to it. Thanks to the redevelopment of the forest of property, the greening of the parking lots, the inclusion of a tree-lined avenue of access and a new covered square of welcome, these spaces become an experience of story for employees and visitors, a testimony of the history and the present of GF, both closely linked to the Swiss territory.
The outdoor spaces lead directly to a welcome area, a new filter of access to both production and administrative spaces, the latter contained in a new volume of about 4,000 square meters suspended as a bridge between the welcome area and the existing factory. The separation of the flows, which guarantees the exclusive presence of heavy vehicles at a lower level, free from any possible physical and visual interference with visitors and employees, thus becomes an element of safety and helps to enhance the new outdoor spaces.
A façade of the story, which takes place on the entire perimeter of the new building, will allow a continuous and variable communication of the company towards employees and visitors and will become the new main public front of the entire area.
