RDG Planning & Design completed the School of Dentistry, an addition to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
RDG and Creighton University began planning for the future of the School of Dentistry in 2006 with the assessment of existing facilities and a visioning retreat that assessed the potential opportunities to better serve the University, students, and the community. Based upon capital and a long term operational proforma, a new facility was deemed the most beneficial option. With a strong focus on visual connectivity to the community, this new facility becomes a beacon for the neighborhood with the opportunity to increase their patients served from 12,000 to 15,000 per year, expanding their impact with quality care. The five-level, state-of-the-art, 267-000-square-foot facility will have the capability to utilize telemedicine and active learning environments in addition to the traditional didactic teaching pedagogy. To be included are 138 adult clinic operatory chairs; 10 surgery and six acute care operatories with provision for 24/7 care services; 13 faculty practice operatories; and 15 pediatric/orthodontic operatories. Energy efficient glazing systems, an external sun screen, and a motorized sun shading device controlled by the building automation system will assist in maintaining a climate-controlled environment.
