Innovative architecture and design are vital elements in the creation of a truly healing environment in southern california.
Be Well OC offers an innovative, holistic approach to mental health and wellness care. This world-class center contains 60,000 square feet of treatment spaces and residential suites and officially opened in January 2021. The center is a groundbreaking public-private partnership in mental health and substance use recovery care for adults and adolescents, and the design and materials used needed to be as unique and advanced as the center itself.
Designer Kassie Hammerschmidt and her team from Boulder Associates Architects wanted the center to feel warm and welcoming. Every element selected needed to embrace a natural, inviting aesthetic, and environmental sustainability, longevity, durability and ease of maintenance were high priorities for flooring and other interiors.
Patcraft’s Enrich resilient plank and sheet vinyl from the EcoSystem Collection resembles natural wood for a clean, sleek hard surface in spaces such as the main lobby, vestibules, treatment rooms, dining areas and gym. In classrooms, media rooms, residential suites and private offices, Patcraft carpet tile creates a soft, calming, quiet surface. Artcloth in Jute and Fiber, Global Hand in Fiber, and Prado walk-off tiles in Obsidian evoke a quiet stroll through nature. The bio-based resilient is made from renewable resources and the carpet tile is fully recyclable at the end of its useful life.
From start to finish, every color, pattern and surface texture was selected based on this overarching vision of “thoughtful design,” with the needs of residents, families and staff in mind. Patients and families going through a new experience at a time of crisis are met with a safe, comfortable environment for healing and recovery.
“One thing that we knew right away was that eco-flooring from Patcraft would be used throughout the project. This will be a healthier space because it does not have a negative impact on the environment.”
