HSPC Health Architects delivered a state-of-the-art design for St. Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee located in Melbourne, Australia.
HSPC Health Architects was engaged by St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee, on the design and delivery of a new private hospital and residential aged care facility in western Melbourne. They collaborated with St Vincent’s to create a new green-field, four level private hospital serving Melbourne’s outer west. The development consisted of a 112 bed facility, offering General Medical, Surgical and Maternity services. Accommodation was provided for Operating Theatres, CSSD, Medical Imaging, Emergency Department, Consulting Suites and Pharmacy. The project also included a co-located 80 bed Residential Aged Care Facility, focusing on the needs of the frail elderly and those experiencing cognitive impairment.
The brief had two separate components; the acute hospital and a residential aged care complex. It was an objective to maintain a distinct identity and entrance for each but to allow for shared services between the two such as: the Chapel, Kitchen, Supply, Waste Removal and access to Rehabilitation Services, the Gymnasium and the central public Café. A dramatic two level atrium ‘hospital street’ links these two main components and the shared facilities.
The expansive and level site makes way to future proof the hospital so that the anticipated growth of the facility can occur in multiple directions, with minimum disruption to the functioning of the hospital as the demand dictates.
