The apartment building designed by Bedaux de Brouwer Architects is on the corner of Wibautstraat and Grensstraat. The recently renovated Wibautstraat, now a city boulevard, is an important route to the centre of Amsterdam. The apartment building forms the new head of the 19th-century block of apartment houses on Wibautstraat and the cornerstone of the stately Townhouses with lush front gardens in the Grensstraat. The building completes the existing building block and forms a link between the small-scale buildings in the Grensstraat and the larger complexes on the Wibautstraat.
The fourteen starter homes are fitted on a relatively small plot. The choice was made to create a sculptural volume in brick that refers to the brick architecture of the Grensstraat. Due to the location on the corner of the street, the building has an all-round quality and, according to the supervisor, is the "gem" of the new developments on Wibautstraat. Each home is unique and designed so that it optimally enjoys orientation and views. The upper layers are higher than the surrounding buildings and have a view of the river Amstel.
