Hungerburg Funicular / Stations
Architect: Zaha Hadid
The new Hungerburg Funicular was designed by Zaha Hadid and opened in 2007. In about 20 minutes you get from the city centre to the Nordkette in the Karwendel mountains. For the four stations, Zaha Hadid was inspired by the ice and snow landscape of the region, and as result the stations resemble ice glaciers. This is achieved by the arched shape of the roofs and the firmly anchored concrete bases.
