Full Description
The client stumbled upon this 1890s house after years of searching for a vacation home on Vashon Island. The place was a former shipbuilder’s cabin and had become a hodgepodge of decorative eras with peeling linoleum flooring, multiple roofs, chipped paint, and pink plywood walls.
Over the course of a year, the firm spearheaded a gut renovation of the roughly 1,900-square-foot home. The designers wanted to give the place back its historic character that had been stripped away. The result is a design that’s timeless and cohesive. White cedar-paneled walls, Douglas fir floors, and salvaged doors and fixtures form the design’s backbone.
The design team went on a treasure hunt to find a mix of antiques that told the story of a historic coastal cabin. The character comes through in the pieces we chose for the spaces; a mix of primitive nautical objects and well-loved antiques that are casual enough for sandy feet.
