Karen Blixens Plads covers 20,000 square metres and was designed and built by COBE inside the University of Copenhagen.
As one of the world's leading cycling cities, With more than 40% of Copenhagen's residents cycling as their primary mode of transport, Karen Blixens Plads, a student parking solution, was born.
From the beginning, COBE hoped the project would "improve the connection between the landscape and the urban space, integrate the best green space with a large bike parking area, and create a space that provides a good social gathering place and learning environment."
The unique hill topography divides the space into different areas, and the exposed dome space serves as an activity space for recreation and recreation.
The interior of the hill is a parking lot for more than 2,000 bicycles, and the space is connected by a scattered circular arc that brings in natural light.
The load-bearing structure of the exterior facade is made of poured concrete shell and hand-paved tiles, with colours that echo those of the surrounding university buildings.
The plant landscape is set to introduce natural elements into the building, while increasing the capacity of rainwater treatment and becoming an adaptation to climate change.
The artificial summit is more like a stage for an outdoor auditorium, with a capacity of up to 1,000 people providing plenty of standing space for concerts.
The rolling hills are like a blanket over the grounds, giving students more freedom and variety in their activities.
Lighting and parking poles are minimalist in their immersion into the hill space, with sturdy and durable materials chosen to ensure a sustainable environmental theme.
In the soft form of the transition, the designers combined the university's demand for urban space with the open landscape, and the public square was integrated with the campus buildings.
"Thus creating an open and inviting urban plaza that can accommodate and promote green transport, climate change adaptation and biodiversity." COBE said.
