ProjectOverview
Concept
Eureka is an indoortheme playground located on the second floor of KKOne shopping mall in ShenzhenFutian. The brand has always believed the idea of “Nothing But Happiness. Theproject is an upgrade of the playground. We have broken through the originaltheme, a snow mountain town which is relatively concrete, and adopted a moremetaphysical and abstract concept to enhance the brand's pursuit and upgradeits own quality. Entropy is the concept that we choose to give to thisparadise.
Erwin Schr& dinger mentioned inhis book named
What Is Life? The Physical Aspect of the Living Cell
“life feeds onnegative entropy” The so-calledgrowth is the process of constantly reducing entropy and making the body andmind gradually controllable. However, the process from disorder to order isusually accompanied by rules, self-discipline and constraints. Playground, as a place to achieve childhood fantasies, should show the oppositestate to growth. In my mind, it should be designed fromthe perspective of children - break the shackles. Here, order will hide beneath disorder. There are full of possibilities in chaos. The corresponding example in reality is that most children don’t like to clean up their toys. On onehand, it is because they do not understand the importanceof tidiness, while on the other hand, they aremore comfortable and relaxed in such an environment. I am trying to create sucha “messy” and uncertain space, not only for children, but also for “childish” adults.
空间
Space
The prototypeof the space is a pile of ruins, just like the series
Pseudo Documentation
, photographsof installations created by David DiMichele. Theinspiration of space comes from my childhood memories. Walls, roofs, bombshelters, trees, gardens, construction sites and sand piles are naturalplaygrounds for children at that time.Children might be excited about conquering a sand pile, orhaving a secret base in anabandoned place, or they might be proudof sliding down a steep slope. Due to safety and other factors, it is much moredifficult for children today to find such a space to play so freely in thecity. The recreational facilities in parks and communities arerelatively monotonous and lack a sense of immersion. Therefor, we have created many small spaces of various shapes by stacking and cuttingforms and structures, as if they were buildingblocks randomly scattered by children. Children can chase each other in thisthree-dimensional maze, climb through holes or cracks between obstacles to findhidden chambers, or overcome fear of height to conquer clear overhead passageways.
外观
Outlook
The display of Eureka playground islike the beginning of a chaotic world waiting for children to explore. Theoverlapping shapes seem to lose gravity and are randomly grouped together.Sitting on a slightly raised bench, children are like sitting on a magic flyingcarpet. The tipped staircase in the middle creates a ladder to an alien worldusing illusion of perspective. The square hole made of glass and mirror is likea window to peep into the future. Children can freely release theirenergy or find better themselves in this seemingly"chaotic" world.
Library
Area㎡
The combination of reconditephysics books shuttling through the light gate, a floating lamp and a giantgrid paper-like wall bring an absurd dreamy scene into reality. Here, childrencan stand behind a clear frame and become cover characters of Eureka. They canhuddle around Neo, a monster character to read hyperspace theory as well, orget into a secret tunnel to explore the world inside bookshelves. Moreover, they can wander through the wonderful worlds of books with their parents.Illusion and reality blend here, and the boundary between dream and reality isblurred.
oddler
Area㎡
The appearance of the toddler areais totally different from the library area. The sky turned into a lake, dottedwith several colorful islands. The ground becomes the sky, and the red or pinkcushions are like clouds in the sunset. In the company of their parents, children run, jump, roll and crawl among these "clouds", and tasteevery bit of joy of growing up. They can climb to the top of the spinning hillwith their buddies to see who can reach the pearl between heaven and earth, ride a hanging ball like Tarzan, or crawl on the wall like Spider-Man.
色彩
Colors
The colors ofthe park refer to the change of entropy. The red and pink colors represent thechaotic state with higher entropy, while the blue and purple colors representthe ordered state with lower entropy. On the whole, the color transitionradiates from the core structure to all directions.
Play Like a kid
