Whitin Observatory, Wellesley College | Wellesley, MA
Built at the turn of the century on a hill in the Hunnewell Arboretum, Whitin Observatory is the century-old home of the Wellesley College Astronomy Department. The existing building was fully renovated and expanded to house office space for Geoscience professors and updated classrooms for use across all of the sciences. A central corridor connects a modest 2,000 SF addition to the existing 8,000 SF building. The new corridor is also a source of natural light and views into the lush trees and plantings of the Arboretum surrounding the site.
