The Louvre Lens museum park sits on a horizontal slag heap, storage mode for the exploitation rebus going up to 4 meters above the adjoining parcels before the electrification which limited the impact on soil to optimise vertical deposit.

The terrain is oriented by the two slag heaps in Loos-en-Gohelle all around delimited by garden cities. At four cardinal points the terrain is joined to the territories on several kilometers by what remains of the cavaliers: network of raised roads/excavated earth for the transport of materials by rail from the railway stations and ports. As such the museum park irrigates the country in-depth the same as the garden cities so singular are all naturally brought to the threshold of the museum.

This elongated form, print of the distribution method of industrial flows, deflected the manner of installing itself in the ground plate. The abandoned rails were the premier niches of vegetable recolonization that in 20 years of abandonment have engaged a pioneer forest to the west and faunistics and floral corridors between fragmented and controlled territories by the mines of the hold of the border cavaliers. The critical mass of this spontaneous vegetable vigour and that of the adjoining garden cities is capital in an overdrawn region of arborescent heritage.

It is then a question of articulation through this program of museum park that which we established during the competition, the vegetable dynamic that primed the attractively of the terrain, the cultural dynamic with the museum itself, the event platforms, the soft ties of cavaliers and the living memory of the mining base of the cycle of plant materials to valued oils as an economic resource, then in an inverted symmetry, of the oil to the valued plant as heritage resource.

If I come back to the earth clod at the begining of the milieus gallery in the botanical garden, that which at Bordeaux took 400m2 per represented milieu, is at Louvre a clod in the order of 20 hecters. This vertical slice of schist soil, basically that which is deposited by the mining activity and redesigned to form an enclosure, is open to moss colonization and in particular to the consolidation of the edges towards a perennial wood.

In the manner of threads of micro organisms who fix to atmospheric nitrogen in order to transform it into nitric nitrogen, the surface of the ground is perforated with pockets of draining stones, mineral storage, at the same as clusters of drops that capture water, retain it, infiltrate it and bring the excess to the strip gardens. These perforations will be the favoured substrate of mosses which have the ability to capture and to fix heavy metals to the soils and actually to reduce the ambient dust.

This regular perforation of mineral surfaces around the foyer allows for an articulated transition from blossoming prairie clearings, to the mineral surfaces around the foyer by densifying towards a level of the Landes formations and in order to finish in the pioneer forest.
