Things, gestures and feelings don’t mean anything on their own. Luxury for example. Luxury, for us, is doing what we love doing. Luxury, they say, lies in what you can’t pay for, because “there is only one real luxury, and that lies in human relations” (Antoine de Saint Exupéry).
So we have taken a 17th century residential building by Fontana di Trevi and we have converted it into six apartments to allow ourselves the luxury of doing what we love best, and to present you with the luxury of finding in Rome what wasn’t there before: a living room surrounded by everything you might need to help you discover the hidden identity of this great city, or get to know it better. We are all perfectly aware that the best way to travel is to stay in a friend’s place: one goes back home with a piece of the place we’ve been, with the feeling, however brief, of having become part of the local scene.
This is what we have in mind: to be able to assist you with discretion in getting to know the most intimate corners of the city, introduce you to the more radical local traditions and suggest unlikely places where you can discover real Rome. Whether you’re here on holiday, on business, for a meeting, a party or a wedding. Whether you wish to rent an apartment or the entire Casa Cau, this will be a home for you, where you can feel truly spoilt.
The apartments in the very heart of Rome offer all the comforts and services one might expect in the best hotels in town, to which we add informal and unusual treats, tailored to our guests’ requirements. Each apartment has a different aesthetic feel and lay out, the flats have their own very strong yet functional personality and appeal, and the guest will get the feeling they’ve made a choice by staying here, they’ll have the impression of living in their own home.
And, if necessary, there will always be someone on hand who will understand what you really want, and love. Pino and Kevin, who you can ask for advice or ideas as if they were your next door neighbours (but if you prefer you can use the post-box in the hall) or the chef at the “Stazione di Posta”, our restaurant for your events, on the square of the ex-slaughter- house in Testaccio, next to the Macro museum of contemporary art, which on request will do your shopping for you, or prepare an exclusive dinner in your apartment.
The six apartments all have dining spaces and open kitchens, supplied with a selection of cooking materials. On awakening, you will be provided with fresh supplies for your breakfast. “Stazione di Posta”, in a publication exclusively printed for CasaCau, will also suggest a few seasonal recipes guests can either cook for themselves at home or on request have dishes delivered or prepared by our cooks directly in the apartment kitchens.
The building restoration was conceived so that its historical char- acter could interact with an advanced modern, contemporary, craft based design concept. The furnishings reveal their purpose outright, setting up a direct and simple relationship with the user. The apartments have been completed with the inclusion of a few vintage items from the 50’s to the 70’s, with a very strong and specific identity, designed for the kind of comfort and convenience a stay away from home calls for. Most of them are equipped with a Turkish bath, one has a shower and tub, while one has a sauna. Some of the units can be joined, creating four person apartments.
