The Taiwan Design Expo 2019 is more like an Introduction to Pingtung Exhibition.
When asked, “What are the principles of design?”
We’d say they are about discovering problems, forgetting the problems and solving them.
Pingtung does not have a problem, it is just lack of the general public’s knowing.
What about Culture?
We’d say it is the most normal diary ever; Pingtung remains undistorted as it becomes a city, it still has its little secrets.
This is how we shall explain our exhibition “Pingtung Ya”.
-
We’ve used the scaffolding system as the main spatial structure. We anticipate that the naked galvanized steel pipes will reflect on the role of “culture” in the design; Simple, not overly gorgeous, at the same time accumulating warmth.
As for the Dawu Mountain which has always been here, we’ve used weaved bamboo sheets to create humble and unobtrusive sparks through the craftsmanship from which they’re made.
We hope to introduce the places in Pingtung not by where the locations are; we use stories to connect our audience to Pingtung instead as this is how relationships should be created.
『So what should you do?
When you come across something that provokes your curiosity – be it a scent, a picture, an object or a voice – pick up one of the corresponding blue cards and take it to one of the flanking POS machines.』
Scan the bar code on the blue card – make sure you hear the beeping sound – and collect the receipt which contains all the information you need to fulfil your desire and solve your curiosity.
Ask your parents / trick your girl/boyfriend/partner to take you to the real place – Pingtung.
-
This is a real space, unrefined but natural, no slightest pressure, because you’re starting to know.
Besides that, when the exhibition comes to an end, the weaved bamboo sheets will be used as educational materials at the local primary schools; the unpainted wooden shelves will be reused in emerging spaces; the scaffolding system will be returned to the construction sites; the displays will be delivered back to where they belong and continue to deepen Pingtung culture.
Exhibitions should not create wastes to the earth after all.
