In order to embody these ideas, Suppose Design Office started planning the renovation of this facility with the concept of "a space where the past and the present intersect". An indigenous landscape surrounded by mountains on all sides and a cityscape as a castle town. In contrast to the Matsumoto-ness that I had imagined, Asama Onsen was "The Onsen Ryokan Town" that was left behind in an era of concrete buildings built in the Showa and Heisei eras.
Instead of erasing the era and scent peculiar to the Showa hot spring inn, Suppose Design Office plan the act of dismantling the thick makeup that is finished on the skeleton, considering how to leave it in the charm and make use of it. .. Using the existing skeleton that has appeared as a clue, we are designing a "contrast between the past and the present" that utilizes the large banquet hall and large communal bath as a restaurant and library space. By leaving the memory of The Onsen Ryokan, we created a unique scenery and experience that does not occur in a new construction.
