The Community Centre and Nursery will serve the new community of Eddington on the North West Cambridge Development. Located adjacent to the new primary school the 100 place Nursery is arranged around three sides of a landscaped courtyard. On the fourth side, the more civic scaled Community Centre, addresses the new local centre. The largest volume, the 180 person main hall, flanks an entrance terrace to the west and creates a marker in the new urban realm.

The Community Centre provides a gathering place for all aspects of life, from marriages or memorial services to zumba. The brief, developed through community consultation, called for three main spaces of varying scale, with the mid-sized room having its own secure garden. As the community will benefit from existing nearby sports facilities, the brief developed a strong focus on the performing arts. The main hall’s volume allows for variable acoustics that can be adjusted to suit events ranging from chamber music to film screenings, its height being critical to achieving a passively ventilated, acoustically attenuated space.

庭院为托儿所儿童创造了一个被保护的游戏场，解决了没有围栏的安全问题。一个环绕着游戏花园的回廊为教室和被遮盖的游戏空间提供了外部循环。在没有走廊的情况下，教室可以直接与花园相连，也可以看到邻近的学校操场，同时也能从交叉通风中获益。

The courtyard creates a sheltered play garden for the Nursery children, solving the need for security without fences. A cloister wrapping the play garden provides external circulation to the classrooms and covered play. With no corridors, the classrooms can engage directly with the garden and also have views towards the adjacent school playground, whilst benefiting from cross ventilation.
