CAW Architects was trusted with the design of the new public high school, East Palo Alto Academy, located in East Palo Alto, California
This model school is the first new public high school in East Palo Alto in a generation. For its client the Sequoia Union High School District, CAW created a small LEED-Certified campus with a strong central core that focuses on an outdoor amphitheater. The immediate goal was to create a strong sense of campus identity and provide options for student performances as well as casual seating.
A multi-purpose room was designed with large doors that open out onto the core campus, where students can gather and eat inside or out. Second floor exterior balconies overlook the central core, adding life and vitality to the campus. The multi-purpose room and library have public entrances that allow for shared use with the community.
