In collaboration with the architecture firm Perkins + Will, Hoerr Schaudt designed the landscape and public plazas of this innovative new cultural institution, which incorporates a sweeping green roof that rises with the nautilus shape of the building, and links the museum with an adjacent sculpture park. A ‘primordial forest,’ consisting of wild planted landforms edged with granite, is one of several elements that serve as both learning experience and social space. Our efforts to connect the museum to its site reflect the harmonious interconnection of man and nature, an essential concept in Chinese culture.
