The city of Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, has undergone rapid growth in the last decade. Soaring literacy and employment rates have accompanied an uptick in the number of schools and colleges being opened in the city. GD Goenka Public School Rudrapur has been designed to stand out among this new crop of institutions, while adhering to the high standard of educational excellence set by the GD Goenka Group.
The school is designed to cater to a K-12 student body of 2500, accommodating a variety of indoor and outdoor activity zones, sports facilities and play areas in addition to learning spaces. An array of sun-breakers in coral and chrome yellow articulate the building façade. Against the white mass of the school building, these concrete frames resemble building blocks - their size, vibrancy and asymmetric arrangement evoking a sense of whimsy. The distinct appearance of the school complex renders it approachable yet memorable, meeting the goals of the client as well as capturing the imagination of its core user group – the students.
