肉店的业主希望人们在采购肉类时有着新体验。在小店的入口外左手旁和进门后右侧有着价格表,同时肉类十分整齐的一层层堆叠展示。精心设计的照明让产品看起来十分诱人。这样的展示不光十分合适产品,也有益人们的交流,让在这个有着精美设计和精选天然材料的老字号中购物变成一种享受。这个社区肉店,是一个游客,当地人,工作人们能够交流的场所。

About Design
The owner wanted to stay true to Kamakura’s relaxed culture while introducing a new style of meat shopping experience. We answered his desire by placing a counter in the middle of the store, adjacent to display windows on the sides, thus making it possible for shoppers to see the products before going up to the counter.
Furthermore, we designed the innovative “tower showcases,” rising from the floor to the ceiling. The tower showcase enables the display of products with the most beautiful angles under the specifically calculated lighting design. This exciting tower offers not only the dignified element of the Kamakura’s established meat shop, but also a place for hearty conversations with the shoppers. The shoppers will enjoy the long-lasting sophistication of the revived meat shop, created with the elaborated designs and finely selected natural materials.
Influence which it has on the life style of Asia
This face-to-face experience challenges the online purchasing trend by instigating the very basic purpose of shopping. How does one go about finding a product she/he needs? How one does decide what she/he needs? This meat shop defies them by being a community itself. The store is this town’s community where the staff, locals and tourist find products through the communication amongst themselves. This is living proof of that the best quality is not the convenience but connection with people at any period.
Commercial success
With the new interior/exterior design, we also redesigned the packages and the store sign. As a result, the new and high-design Hagiwara Meat Shop’s sales has skyrocketed since its grand opening, thanks to the very loyal regulars and the next- generation customers who make the point to visit the talk of this town. Receiving the JCD design award and the DSA space design award only prove the success of this project.
Other information
The project successfully received JCD Design Award ,DSA Space Award , DFAA award in 2012. The Hagiwara Meat Shop will on in SHOTEN-KENCHIKU-September.
Company Information
Design Eight Co., Ltd was founded by designer Shinsuke Fujii in 2008. Shinsuke mastered his skills in interior/furniture product designs at the exclusive Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. After Spending 8 years at a major general construction firm, he moved on to establish Design Eight to further showcase his talents as a designer. Through his keen understanding of the business aspects of the industry, Design Eight thrives as a firm of abundant expertise including but not limited to design, construction and project management of hotel, shop and resident projects.
Mio’s Profile
Mio Takagi was educated Interior Architectural Design and graduated with honors from Santa Monica College, California. Spending few years at a Worldwide Hospitality Design firm at her entry/junior level, she broadened her horizons in diverse cultural design sense. She moved to Tokyo and joined a design team at Design 8. She has been an exclusive assistant for Designer Shinsuke Fujii up to the present.
About Client
In the old capital city of Kamakura, Hagiwara Meat Shop has been welcoming locals and tourists alike for over 60 years with its extensive selection of fresh meats and processed foods. Its cozy atmosphere is chiming in with the history of this antique city itself.
