An iconic building design pushes boundaries, structurally and technically to exhibit the client’s technical abilities in construction. The renovated 1950’s office building is located on a highly visible corner of Anaheim and Quincy Adams in Long Beach, CA. Alain Hirsch, owner and general contractor, requested a building representational of their business with a new and exciting work environment to inspire and energize the team.

The structural system from inside gives the illusion of a hanging façade over a glass wall and a pond that can withstand the seismic and wind forces as well as be stable enough for a person or persons to sit on. This also created a visual element in the interior space. Materials were chosen specifically to achieve this structural composition. The selection of Parklex wood panels combined with glass gives sharp lines and corners within the steel structure. The building is light and transparent inside and outside. The design of the floating skewed ceilings combined with the tilted façade carries the building dynamism to the inside hence creating an energetic and innovative work environment.
