Reading is an innate ability of the human being; whether it’s reading a world without narratives or reading the fictional mind of the others, reading brings us to the world of which we are reading about. Therefore we replicate the scene of our childhood when we would secretly practice in front of the mirror before a speech contest – that first time proving that we are capable of expressing ourselves in front of the crowd of audiences gave us nervousness and excitement. We also recall the countless posters hanging on the walls of the hometown grocery store; as we flip through the posters we grow along the reading of our surroundings.
Photos of culture and folklore printed in enlarged scale convey the meaning of inheritance; the minimally decorated space in the Sun Li-Jen Memorial Residence’s historical building stands out on its own architecture.
“We only need 5 seconds to change our lives” – Mel Robbins; we playfully use this 5 seconds as an encounter between our audience and the books in the Pingtung Art Museum; with carefully selected books by Akauw Books we read the stories of Pingtung.
