Before the expansion of Mashhad, Malek house was located near the gates of the citadel and in the southwest of the old city, and is now located on the eastern side of Imam Khomeini Street and across the Khorasan Economic and Finance Administration and next to the municipality parking. Hajj Hussein Malek house was built in the late Qajar and early Pahlavi period with a European architecture style. Malek house is built on two floors and with an area of about 600 square meters. The material used in this house are clay and mud, wood and brick. This building has been residential for about thirty years, and now is art and handicrafts skills center. In 1998, it was registered as one of National Cultural Heritage of Iran.
After the Malek house restoration, Iranian cultural heritage organization gave a new usage to this building as an adaptive reuse project. As told, the usage is arts and handicrafts skills center. Due to its undesirable function, we are suggesting a new usage for this building. A usage which has economic benefits and will improve the cultural and social level of the context. Considering the location of the building and the importance of culture and society, the usage that we suggested is Cinema and movie criticism center.
