The Robin Rice Gallery in New York presents the first photographic exhibition of American art photographer Zack Seckler . Consisting of a series of stunning aerial photographs taken in the Kalahari basin between 2009 and 2010, ‘ Botswana ’ offers a different, almost magical view of the much-photographed iconic African landscapes we have come to know. In order to be able to capture these breathtaking photographs, Seckler enlisted the help of an expert pilot who flew a small, ultra-lightweight aircraft extremely near to ground level, at an altitude of 500 feet (150 meters). The impact this had on the photographer was profound as he explains: '' Being above the ground at such low elevations, and having the ability to precisely manoeuvre, was like gliding over an enormous painting and being able to create brushstrokes at will. '' Zack Seckler ’s poetic images go beyond the usual ‘National Geographic’ style of depicting African wildlife, exploring a more abstract compositional style.
