An alternative approach to traditional emergency care delivery drives a unique architectural solution.

As an innovator in the healthcare industry, Zoom+Care, a Portland-based network of community clinics recently opened its emergency room alternative called Super.

Having worked with Zoom+Care on numerous clinics throughout Oregon and Washington, as well as their corporate headquarters, TVA was the right choice to seamlessly incorporate the functional components of this first prototype delivery model with the branded elements that differentiate the look and feel of Zoom+Care spaces and services.

Providing a full range of medical services, Zoom+Care is continually developing their products while staying focused on healthcare innovation and improving the patient experience. As many healthcare systems are overwhelmed and infrastructure strained, this alternative delivery approach places an emphasis on design functionality and the user experience.

An adaptive re-use of a former warehouse space, the new tenant improvement brings natural light deep into the building interior. Layering partition walls and exposing the ceiling framing helped to create interesting environments that allow the space to feel less like a healthcare facility, and more like a workshop for healing.

The interiors are vibrant and active, and support Zoom+Care’s mission to promote wellness. A branded welcome area, complete with digital messaging and a tea station, uses bold colors and graphics to create a playful mood.

The main clinical space is organized around a large, high-top nurse’s station that is equal parts work table and gathering hub, with integrated handwashing sinks at each end and clear visibility to the nine exam rooms that are directly adjacent. Each exam room has an oversized sliding door with glazed sidelights, and built-in bench seating. Imaging services, including CT, X-ray, and ultrasound, are located in a separate suite with private changing rooms and support functions.
