What guided the project? What were the inspirations?
A cozy home was always the main wish, but they also wanted an environment with furniture and ornaments that could express their personalities. We proposed a light color palette and soft textures, which worked lovely at the entrance hall and on the couple's closet. The spa was also a highlight with its super cozy textures of floor and wall coverings.
Main points of the project
Besides the general layout of the spaces, with its furniture, coverings and custom-made joineries, the two highlights of this project were very special to us: transform an old service bathroom into a spa with a bathtub, and transform the old service room, lightless, into a bright and functional office/studio for a designer and illustrator.
Matú accepted the challenge and we loved the result, such as the residents. The new spa became a relaxing space for the couple and a fun space for their child. Changing the masonry walls for a large fluted glass frame, the studio maintained its privacy while it became a more illuminated space.
Curiosity
We plan and project a lot, but in lots of cases something that is designed for a specific purpose changes its function when the house gains life and new meanings.
For example, we designed a custom-made joinery next to the wooden panel of the living room to serve as a support to the bar. When Tom was born, it became the perfect space to organize items they didn’t think of before, such as the plastic mat for baby crawling and his toys, enabling a more practical routine for all residents.
