KL Studio designed a space to attract visitors and learners at the Europe House Skopje in Skopje, Macedonia.
The aim of this project was the modernization of the existing EU Info Center that had outdated design and functionalities. Our studio was selected to work on the design and supervision for the implementation of the project. The client’s goal was to make the space attractive for young people, students, and artists as well as for passers-by that can drop by the Center and get information about the EU. With the intention to make the space look attractive and welcoming from outside, we paid special attention to the design of the window screen. Next to the entrance we created a jardinière with plants that link the indoor space with the exterior and break the barrier between the entrance and the reception area. Considering how the space will look from outside in the workplace area, we designed arches and we placed a big TV screen facing the street in order to attract the attention of passers-by. This also served to provide some privacy for the employees. Alongside the conference area, between the existing columns, we created “Boxes” with soft seating for relaxation and conversations. These “Boxes” look welcoming and inviting from the sidewalk. We carefully selected easily movable furniture for the conference and reception area in order to achieve multi functionality. These areas can be easily adapted for the different types of settings required for the diverse events that take place at the Europe House. In order to allow users to easily change the setting of the room, we have used the space along the conference area for storage of the conference chairs and tables. The curtains covering stored furniture allow for smooth access and also work as sound absorbents.
