The Memmingen Hospital was created by the merger of the former regional hospital (Kreiskrankenhaus) and the city hospital (Stadtkrankenhaus). It is the second largest hospital in Bavaria, Germany, in the Swabian region and consists of 12 specialised departments and 1,400 staff. Every year, the hospital has 23,800 patients in its wards and 65,700 outpatients. The hospital has a partnership with the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) and is a teaching hospital (Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus).

Memmingen is the fifth largest town in the administrative region of Swabia and has around 42,000 inhabitants. The town's origins can be traced back to the time of the Roman Empire. The old town with its many courtyards, castles and noble houses, palaces and fortifications is one of the best preserved towns in southern Germany.

Following the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, the Memmingen City Council has now also voted unanimously for the construction of a new building for the Memmingen Hospital. The city council also voted unanimously for the team "Nickl & Partner, Süss, Horn + Horn" as master planners for the new hospital building. Mayor Manfred Schilder was delighted with the official approval of this groundbreaking project for the future: "Now we can finally make the hospital development more modern, which is a milestone for us and for the healthcare sector in the region." Hospital director Maximilian Mai added: "This new building is not only more economical and modern, it is also more

attractive to patients. And I am sure it will result in a real increase in staff ."

The new hospital building is also one of the largest non-university hospital construction projects in Bavaria.

The hospital board also explained the reason for choosing the Nickl & Partner team: "The most important part of the evaluation was not only the architectural concept, but also the competence in terms of spatial solutions and operational organisation". And this is where we, together with our partners Süss and Horn+Horn, won the competition against the other four applicant teams.

克里斯蒂娜·尼克-薇勒教授作为代表对设计规划中的新医院园区进行了介绍，该园区位于高速公路交界处，占地15公顷。设计中设想了将现有的病房，日间门诊以及扩展的区域都规划在一个主楼中。此外，还将建设医疗护理中心MVZ，包括实践和护理学校，以及一个停车场。

设计概念着重于优化开发场地和建筑的部分路径。还特别考虑到了建筑的隔音、可持续性、日光、通风系统和绿色屋顶。

该项目预计将在2025年春季开始施工，最早在2029年就可以投入使用。

Professor Christine Nickl-Weller was the representative who gave a presentation on the design planning for the new hospital campus, which is located at the motorway junction on a 15 hectare site. The design envisages the existing wards, day clinic and extended areas all planned in one main building. In addition, the medical care centre MVZ will be built, including practice and nursing schools, as well as a car park. 

Part of the concept is to optimise the pathways on the development site and in parts of the building. Special consideration has also been given to the building's sound insulation, sustainability, daylight, complex ventilation systems and green roofs.

The project is expected to start construction in spring 2025 and be ready for use as early as 2029.
