STUDIO BESAU-MARGUERRE CREATES ECLECTIC INTERIOR DESIGN CONCEPT FOR THE WORKING SPACES OF THE MUSEUM FÜR KUNST UND GEWERBE MK&G IN HAMBURG
The multidisciplinary Hamburg studio Besau-Marguerre has completed an eclectic and functional interior design concept for the workspaces of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg. The central task was to create harmonious work and meeting spaces with good room acoustics and clever zoning to meet a wide range of requirements. An elementary design element are the graphically patterned work tables which are made of highquality, coated multiplex panels that the museum had kept after an exhibition on the Memphis Milano design group. With numerous interior design projects, such as the furnishing of the renowned Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg, the design of the ABOUT YOU photo studio and numerous store and trade fair stand concepts for high-profile clients including Vitra, Artek and Thonet, the multidisciplinary Studio Besau-Marguerre has once again demonstrated its expertise in interior design with the project for the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg.
THE INTERIOR DESIGN CONCEPT
For the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, Studio Besau-Marguerre developed an interior design concept that meets the requirements of New Work and simultaneously creates a unique atmosphere through the eclectic use of various design elements.
While sifting through the museum‘s archives, the studio was struck by the huge multiplex panels with graphic patterns and exciting colours in the style of Memphis Milano that the museum had kept after an exhibition on the Italian design group. The find was installed as a central design element and Studio Besau-Marguerre used it to design a conference table as a centerpiece for the meeting room as well as a small round table for the office. Following their eclectic approach, the studio set other styles against the eye-catching Memphis Milano patterns, creating a harmonious and exciting overall picture. The graphic patterns of the tables were revisited, for example with the striped wallpaper or the large, custom-made carpet, which was produced by ReuberHenning according to a design by the studio. To ensure that the overall look is not chaotic – despite the different styles, materials, colours and patterns – Studio Besau-Marguerre created a neutral basis with calm elements, such as the gray curtains.
For the chairs, the Studio Besau-Marguerre chose an exciting and high-quality mix of design classics, as well as contemporary and young manufacturers in order to showcase pieces of design history in line with the museum‘s collection and to stimulate conversation on the topic. While the different designs create excitement, the neutral wood or white tones of the chairs give the expressive tables a harmonious and natural setting. The modular and multifunctional office system Mocon by Studio Besau-Marguerre for Sigel complements the interior design and supports the various work processes with different components.
THE INTERIOR DESIGN SPECIALISTS
Studio Besau-Marguerre has already made a name for itself as interior specialists with numerous projects. For example, the studio developed the interior design and furnishing concept for Hamburg‘s renowned Elbphilharmonie, designing the publicly accessible areas such as the Sky Lounge, the foyers and the artists‘ lounge as well as the employees‘ private offices. At the Apartimentum in Hamburg, Besau-Marguerre realized the so-called WorkLifeSpace with a pioneering interior design concept at the beginning of 2021. For the fashion label ABOUT YOU, Besau- Marguerre developed a lively and inspiring photo studio in an old industrial building which reflects the values of the up-and-coming online fashion store while simultaneously maintaining the architectural characteristics of the old industrial building. Studio Besau-Marguerre has been successfully collaborating with the renowned design brands Vitra and Artek for years, developing stores, trade fair stands and the Vitra Museum exhibitions. The duo‘s concepts convince with their individual colour combinations and a holistic design approach.
