STG Design used a design approach to create a space that embodies an eclectic blend of the familiar and unique qualities of Austin at the Sky Lounge.
The developer for a twenty-five floor office tower in a prime location in downtown Austin wanted a distinctive building with robust amenity offerings. Located on a transfer floor above the parking garage, the double height space with wrap around outdoor terraces was conducive to an elevated offering beyond typical workplace spaces. The challenge to the designers was to develop multi-programmable spaces that would be an amenity for the building’s occupants, but also a destination that was readily accessible to external visitors. Working closely with the client, the designers developed a Sky Lounge 140 feet above ground, that boasts ultra-rich amenities, combining elements of functional workspace with hospitality touches. The space is designed to move effortlessly from a quiet place for a morning coffee break, to workplace meetings, to lounge activities, an early evening cocktail, and high density evening events, as well as offer a fitness facility for tenants.
The green wall at the entrance to the space is a reference to the architectural facets of the building, as well as the many parks and trails Austin is known for. The wood slatted ceiling feature evokes the nightly flight of the iconic South Congress bats over Lady Bird Lake. Feature lighting is a play on musical instruments, referencing the Austin music scene. The outdoor terrace provides a rare amenity and visual connection to downtown Austin. Playing with scale and layering pattern, color, and texture allows for a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The gas lit hearth provides a timeless destination for unwinding and interaction.
