De Bonte Koe, a family-owned business established in 1992, has evolved over the years into a chocolate sensation, boasting a historic base in Schiedam, a contemporary chocolate concept store in The Hague, and an outlet in Rotterdam. Led by the new generation, Amy and Connor Klein, the company collaborated with Studio Ninetynine to craft a fresh interior concept for their expanding chocolate brand.
Design concept
At the heart of the chocolate shop's design stands a striking 10-meter counter, showcasing an array of chocolates elegantly presented on bespoke wooden trays. This multifunctional counter plays several roles: it serves as an eye-catching window display with its dark green trays and sleek metal shelving at the façade, dedicates its main section to handmade bonbons and bouches, and even features a cozy coffee area where patrons can savour a delightful chocolate treat alongside their coffee or tea.
Counter Design
The counter's design is futuristic in nature, resembling a floating table top, finished with a vibrant green epoxy that accentuates the chocolates' appeal. Mirrors strategically placed between the green table bases enhance the illusion of suspension.
First Location
Roll-Out Concept De Bonte Koe selected a charming, compact venue on Piet Heinstraat in The Hague as the first location to implement Studio Ninetynine's new interior concept.
Shelving System
Given the chocolate-selling business's seasonal fluctuations, a flexible shelving system was imperative. To address this need, Ninetynine devised a collapsible shelf system that provides ample display space during peak seasons and can be conveniently stowed away during quieter times. When upright, the shelves resemble wooden sun shutters, infusing the store with a cozy ambiance, even when fewer products are on display.
Branding
Inspired by Ninetynine's innovative interior concept, De Bonte Koe embarked on a brand identity overhaul. Collaborating closely with Studio Ninetynine, branding experts at Circus crafted a new graphic language that harmoniously blends the brand's rich heritage with a contemporary, vibrant design.
