Aoyama Bike Oasis is our proposal for a bike stand strategy and design for the city area of Aoyama in Tokyo, Japan.
We would like to make a system, which at one time creates natural life and supports a green city and make it possible to bike through a street with lots of small shops and feel free to stop whenever you find a favorite shop and spend some times there.
AOYAMA BIKE PLAZA is a simple and flexible idea of organizing bikes by combining things that are already there, and adding something new.
COMBINATION # 1:
Bicycle parking plazas and street intersections. Where you already have wide spaces, we propose small plazas for bikes and people. The circular bike holder also functions as benches and have trees (6-8m height) planted in their center. People park their bikes and have a rest or meet other people here.
Each bike oasis covers a 45 seconds ratio of walking distance.

COMBINATION # 2:
Bicycle parking and street barriers.
To compensate for the areas 60m or more away from the intersections we replace
typical street barrier units with stands that also function as a benches.
