The chapel combines a certain monumental quality with the aim of drawing the community together. This is reflected in the creation of two interlacing spirals whose enveloping shapes define the sacred areas. These spirals represent the culmination of the city's flowing patterns that blend and rise towards the sky. The project is focused on its intrinsic characteristics: simplicity, silence, a peaceful environment, a certain kind of abstraction. The nave retains the East-West position of the old Church of St Gertrude. Its geometry has been studied in the light of its visual fields from the adjacent streets.
The chapel's architecture is consistent with all our projects, an architecture ‘in motion’, in that it never expresses a single viewpoint but has a vibrant quality, revealing itself as it is being experimented, discovered. Like faith and culture, architecture is a path that has to be explored.
