In Zurich's vibrant Langstrasse a new Hiltl vegetarian restaurant opened on 22nd September 2017. Café, cocktail bar, buffet, night club, shop, boulevard and take away - including a bike drive through - occuppy the two floors (300 m2 in plan) for public and offer more than 100 seats of pleasant stay in the city's Kreis 4. In the spring the offer is supplemented with another 100 outside seats. The underground floor serves a large, 50-people communal table during the day. And it becomes the Club Perle at night.
This hybrid myriad of uses is reflected in the open and flexible spatial organization. Held by a durable frame of concrete and rough brick, the most different surfaces, treatments and details differentiate them elegantly. A stable, mineral core is completed in strategic points by a soft textile cover, acting as room divider allowing for the different uses, while creating a warm, cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Gleaming stainless steel handrails connect the long bar upstairs with the shining, caleidoscopic, pulsating pearl that is the club underneath.
A series of interferences by artists Tobias Hantmann with the textile ceiling "fresco" extending thoughout the space, the diagrammatic tagging of the illustrator Safu and the multicoloured graffiti of Veli and Amos refer to the art tradition of the place.
